Memmingen Marketplatz

Situated in Memmingen's medieval old town centre, the Marktplatz (market place) is a picturesque spot, surrounded by the town hall, the Großzunft (Guildhouse) and the Steuerhaus (tax house). If you happen to be here on a Tuesday or Saturday morning, you can experience the farmers market, and enjoy fresh vegetables and fruit.

Memmingen moats

About 2 kilometres of Memmingen's medieval town walls have been preserved, including 5 city gates and 5 towers. Around the old town walls, where the moats used to be, public parks have been created:

  • Zollergarten: this park is a short walk north of the market place
  • Neue Welt: a 10 minute walk to the north from the old town, this wide-ranging park is a popular place for relaxation, and features a beer garden, Kneipp facility, volleyball field, streetball court and a skate park
  • Hohe Wacht: a moat area that remains unfilled, south of the old town
  • Königsgraben: another unfilled moat, south of the Westertorplatz

As always, make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to the Munich West Airport in time for your connection and enjoy your layover city rather than whiling away the time leaning up against your luggage in the departures lounge.
