Be aware that many travellers have issues with taxis in Hanoi, being changed anywhere from 5-25X the official fare based on rigged meters. From the HAN Hanoi International Airport use the fixed fare system. In town, agree on a fixed fare before getting in (you refuse the meter) or if you feel like you are being ripped off, pay what you feel is right (officially this is about VND 7,500/km) and if the police are called then all the better since the driver will either take off or lose. Do not pay a rip-off as it sets precedence for future travellers!
