Osaka Kansai International Airport

Where is Osaka Kansai Airport?

Kansai is the western region of the main Japanese island of Honshu. The area is also known as Keihanshin, referring to its three big cities: Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe (which are all connected by a myriad of train routes).

The Kansai region possesses the bulk of Japan's "National Treasure" buildings and artworks, along with five UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It's hugely popular with tourists.

Osaka Kansai International Airport (IATA: KIX, ICAO: RJBB), also referred to as Osaka Kansai Airport, or simply Kansai Airport, is located on an artificial island in the middle of Osaka Bay, just off the Honshu shore, in Osaka Prefecture, Kansai Region,Japan. The airport may also be referred to as KIA Airport, although this is not its official IATA code.

In 2015, Osaka Kansai Airport served 23,214,756 passengers, making it the busier of the city, 2 airports, the other being Osaka Itami International Airport (ITM).

Airlines that fly to Kansai Airport are too numerous list, but a sampling includes Air France, Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific, Delta Air Lines, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Peach and United Airlines.

On a typical day in KIX, you may see passengers arriving from Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing, Cairo, Dubai, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Honolulu, Manila, Rome, San Francisco, Seattle, Seoul, Sydney or Taipei.

Your best bet for a Kansai Airport transfer is the train - or the ferry, if you are headed to Kobe Airport (UKB). Details on all options are included in this guide.
