Tsawwassen Ferry

Where is Port of Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal?

Travel on BC Ferries is a unique experience in the world. If you sail from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay (north of Victoria), your journey includes Active Pass, a waterway so narrow the ferries pass very close to the shores, and where you may see harbour seals, sea lions, and bald eagles. On other routes, expect to see amazing coastlines, marine birds, and maybe even whales. In the summer, Naturalists are onboard some sailings, giving deck-side lectures.

The Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal is a major transportation facility serving Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, British Columbia, Canada.

The Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal is located at the end of a 3 kilometre (1.8 mile) long manmade causeway, just off the mainland at Tsawwassen, in the district municipality of Delta. The terminal is technically part of Highway 17, and is part of the BC Ferry system.

Interestingly, the Tsawwassen ferry terminal is less than 500 metres from the 49th parallel, Canada's border with the United States. Ferries destined to, or originating from, the Gulf Islands and Swartz Bay, and landing at Tsawwassen, must travel through 8 kilometres of United States waters (no passports required!).

From the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal, BC Ferries provides service to Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, linking the Greater Vancouver area to Victoria and Vancouver Island. Ferries also sail to Duke Point (near Nanaimo on Vancouver Island), and the southern Gulf Islands, including Galiano, Mayne, Pender, Salt Spring and Saturna.

While many people drive their vehicle onboard, foot passengers are common and the Tsawwassen ferry terminal is well served by other transportation methods. If you are headed to downtown Vancouver or Vancouver International Airport (YVR), we recommend taking a bus to the Canada Line SkyTrain from the Tsawwassen terminal. If you have mobility issues or a lot of luggage, then taking a taxi from Tsawwassen probably makes sense. Details on all options are provided in this guide.
