From Krabi to Kolanta

Hi there, great site! I plan to use it for my overnight stay in Bangkok coming up next month.

I don't see the Krabi airport listed yet, but I am heading south to Kolanta for a week and wondering if anyone knows how you get from the Krabi airport to Kolanta. My hotel is willing to pick me up, but the price is way too high. I heard a rumour of either a shuttle bus or ferry that goes to this island, any insights?

Hi Shaun,
There's a couple of options from Krabi to destinations like Koh Lanta:

- There are mini-van shuttle companies that run from the airport, but all these do is take you north to Krabi to a booking office to buy transportation to the island. Expect to waste a few hours in Krabi. The minivan driver (or taxi driver) makes a commission on you from the booking office. At the airport, ask if they take you to Krabi first or go directly to the island (Krabi is to the north, Koh Lanta is to the south).

- Some of the taxi/minibus drivers will take you to the "ferry dock", but confirm that this is indeed for the foot passenger ferry to the island and not just into town to a booking office for the minivan ride on the car ferries.

- Ask your hotel how much it is for "meet and greet" at the airport. If you are travelling in a group of a few or more, it might be worth it for a non-shared minivan and getting there without the few hours delay in Krabi. This would also apply if you arrive late at the airport and need to potentially spend the night in Krabi.
