I used to travel to Tokyo once a month for years until recently. Narita is clean, quiet, and efficient. In Japan people obey orders...especially if they are being spoken to by someone who has a uniform on. Everthing is well organised. Now most of the signs are also in English. If in doubt ask a Japanese school kid...its compulsory to learn English at school. Taxi???? its $2-300 to downtown Tokyo. Only senior executives and fools get a taxi. But they are clean and the drivers are very polite. If you need to catch a taxi in Japan, get your host or local friend to write the destination in Japanese on a small note so you can give it to the driver. Works like a charm. The airport train is brilliant, fast, comes often and efficient. So is the city subway. I like Tokyo and Japan because its civilized, predictable and people still have manners.
