Chiang Rai Driving Stress Level: 2/10

Chiang Rai is easy to drive around in.

An access road links Chiang Rai Airport with Phahonyothin Road (the Superhighway). This road leads southbound to the city centre, Chiang Mai and Bangkok, or northbound to Mae Chan, Mae Sai and the Thai-Myanmar border.

A new road, Vhiangburapha Road (accessed by turning left when exiting Chiang Rai Airport), also leads southbound to the city centre, but is a less congested route, as it is not used by intercity buses heading. The road joins up with Phahonyothin Road (above) via Pao Khun Road, passing Chiang Rai Provincial Stadium.
