Where is Colorado Springs Airport?  


COS Colorado Springs Airport (IATA: COS, ICAO: KCOS, FAA LID: COS), also known as the City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport, or Colorado Springs Muni Airport, is located 6 miles (10 kilometers) southeast of Colorado Springs, a city in El Paso County, Colorado, United States.


At 1839 meters (6,035 feet), the city stands over 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) above sea level. Colorado Springs is situated near the base of one of the most famous American mountains, Pikes Peak, in the eastern edge of the Southern Rocky Mountains, and is easy driving distance to 14 major ski areas.


The Colorado Springs Airport is co-located with Peterson Air Force Base, and has three runways. Aviation enthusiasts may be interested to know that the headquarters for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) are housed at the Peterson base. NORAD command and control is exercised through the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Centre, located a short distance away.
