JED Jeddah Airport Info & Guide

Where is Jeddah Airport?

Jeddah International Airport (IATA: JED, ICAO: OEJN), officially King Abdulaziz International Airport, also referred to as King Abdulaziz Airport, or simply Jeddah Airport, is located 19 kilometres (11 miles) north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The airport is often referred to as KAIA, however this is not an official airport code. The airport is named to honour King Abdulaziz Al Saud. Shared with the military, Jeddah Airport includes a royal terminal and housing facilities for the airport staff.

Jeddah Airport serves about 18 million passengers a year.

Due to Jeddah's proximity to Islam's holy city of Mecca, KAIA Airport features an immemse Hajj Terminal, built to simultaneously handle 80,000 foreign pilgrims, making it among the world's largest air terminals.Jeddah Airport Hajj Terminal is known for its tent-shaped roof, and offers pilgrims many facilities, including a mosque.

The Pilgrims for Hajj and Umrah can enter Saudi Arabia through this airport or through Medina Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport (MED) only.

Jeddah-KAIA airport serves as a major hub for Saudi Arabian Airlines.

Jeddah Airport was named #2 on the list of the World's Worst Airports 2014 by Sleeping in Airports. Check out our blog post, Layover Ideas for the World's Worst Airports, for inspiration if you get stuck here.
