Life and Art of the Impressionists in Montmartre
Duration:
3 hours
From:
USD 419.22
Accompanied by an Art Historian Guide, you will explore artistic and bohemian Paris famed at the end of the 19C and beginning of the 20C. A hub of artistic life, Paris was a magnet for the Impressionists , Matisse and Picasso amongst others. Taking our cue from the the film An American in Paris (1951), with Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron we will visit this historic area where many notable artists lived and worked during the Belle Époque from 1872 to 1914. Renoir rented space at 12 Rue Cortot in 1876 to paint Bal du Moulin de la Galette, showing a dance at Montmartre on a Sunday afternoon. Utrillo lived at the same address from 1906 to 1914, and Dufy shared an atelier there from 1901 to 1911. The building is now the Musée de Montmartre.[11] Picasso, Modigliani and other artists lived and worked in Le Bateau Lavoir during the years 1904 - 1909. Picasso painted here one of his most important works which began his Cubist period “Les Demoiselle d' Avignon.”
