Where is Soroako Airport?
Soroako is a small mining town in the centre of Sulawesi island, the largest open-pit mine in Indonesia. Located in the Verbeek mountains, Soroako is surrounded by three natural lakes: Lake Matano, Lake Mahalona and Lake Towuti.
Matano Lake, the deepest lake in Indonesia, is famous for a strange phenomenon that occurs most years in December/January in which a large tornado appears to stand still in the middle of the lake. At the same time, a cloud comes down to the surface of the lake and then appears to rise up again through the funnel of the tornado. Strange, but we couldn't resist mentioning it.
