Where is Port Blair Airport?  

The Andaman Islands are an archipelago in the Bay of Bengal between India (to the west), and Burma (to the north and east). The Andaman Islands are part of two countries: most are part of India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while a few are part of Burma.

Port Blair International Airport (IATA: IXZ, ICAO: VOPB), officially Veer Savarkar International Airport, or Veer Savarkar Airport, Andaman Islands Airport, Andaman Airport, or simply Port Blair Airport, is located 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) south of Port Blair, in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Union Territory, India. IXZ Airport is shared with the military, and only daytime flying is allowed. The airport is named to honour Indian freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

Port Blair Airport is the only commercial airport in the Andaman Islands, however a small airstrip (about 1000 metres) is located near the Eastern shore of North Andaman near Diglipur.

A new terminal building is under construction and is scheduled to be completed in 2018.

 

There is a road across the runway; traffic had to be stopped in order for aircraft to take off, similar to the Gibraltar Airport.
