BC Transit offers service to and from the Butchart Gardens on a regular basis during opening hours. From downtown, take the 75 or 76 directly there. Note that some 75 and 76 trips leave from Royal Oak during non-peak hours outside of summer. In this case, take the 6 or 30/31 from downtown to Royal Oak and transfer to the 75 or 76 from there. From the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, take the 81 directly there. From Sidney, take the 82 community bus. If you need to transfer, make sure to ask for one from the driver. From downtown the trip takes about 30 minutes.

From Victoria, travelling by private bus might be more convenient than by public bus, but the cost will be about CAD 18-20 more than public transit per person. Bus tours may include a commentary by your driver and typically they allow 3-4 hours total in the gardens, which is more than enough for a casual walk, a meal, and some time in the Benvenuto Gift Shop.

Several private bus companies operate tours from downtown Victoria to the Butchart Gardens. You may either inquire at your hotel front desk, contact any of the tour companies listed below, or during summer months several of the bus companies sell tour packages outside on downtown street corners. Most people purchase a round trip from downtown to the gardens, but you can purchase a one-way ticket from the gardens back to downtown for about CAD 10 (inquire at the information desk for exact times). Some bus companies scale back their operations outside of the summer months.
