An International Drivers' Permit (or IDP) may be required, especially if your local drivers' licence is in a language other than the local language (you may inquire when you pick up your car).

Brisbane offers a good selection of car parking, with many hotels featuring their own parking lots or being located alongside garage areas. It is worth noting that the city of Brisbane has a two-hour parking limit in many locations, regularly patrolled by parking inspectors. Driving in the centre of the city can be a little difficult in some places, due to one-way roads. Further afield, the Greater Brisbane area offers five main routes, running in and out of the city and numbered as M1, M2, M3, M4 and M5. These motorways link the Pacific Highway on the southern side, and the Bruce Highway on the northern side.

 

Car rental agencies in Brisbane offer street maps of the city and always provide cars that are right-hand drive. You are expected to drive of the left-hand side of the road in Brisbane, and throughout Queensland and Australia.
