CMW Camaguey Airport Info & Guide

Camaguey International Airport

Where is Camaguey Airport?

Camagüey, Cuba's 3rd largest city, was once a seaside town, relocated inland in the 1500's to escape almost constant attacks by pirates. After a fire in the 1700's, it was re-built as a maze of confusing winding alleys, blind alleys and forked streets that lead to squares of different sizes. This made Camagüey easy to defend, as it was hard for attackers to navigate. There is only one exit from the city; should attackers ever enter the city, the hope was that the local inhabitants would be able to entrap and kill them (!). Today it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it makes for fun exploring.

Camaguey International Airport (IATA: CMW, ICAO: MUCM), also called Ignacio Agramonte International Airport, Ignacio Agramonte Airport or simply Camaguey Airport is located near Camaguey city, the capital of Camaguey province, in central Cuba. The airport is officially named after Ignacio Agramonte y Loynáz, a Cuban revolutionary.

A relatively small airport, CMW serves Camagüey, Santa Lucia and resorts in the area. Some travellers to Cayo Coco travel though Camaguey Airport, then transfer to the island by shuttle on one of the two causeways. Others fly directly to Cayo Coco via Jardines del Rey Airport (CCC)

Airlines that fly to Camaguey Airport include Aero Caribbean, Air Transat, American Airlines, American Eagle, CanJet, Cubana de Aviación, Sky King and Sunwing Airlines.

Flights to Camaguey arrive from several cities, including Havana, Miami, Montreal and Toronto.
