CPH Copenhagen (Kastrup) Airport is located a mere 8km from the centre of Copenhagen and, with efficient public transport to whisk you downtown, there are no excuses for missing out on this amazing city if you are stuck at the airport. With so many things to choose from have a look at our choice of layover options to help you make up your mind.

Trivoli Gardens

Trivoli Gardens certainly has something to attract everyone to its beautiful, relaxing charm. Being one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, it has both modern terror inducing rides as well as more sedate and stress relieving activities to enjoy. The breathtaking gardens offer a sanctuary to revitalize in and the carousel takes you on a trip back in time, while the Daemon rollercoaster will whip your breath away and leave you hoping for a quiet onward flight.

Copenhagen Canal Tours

One of the biggest tourist attractions in Copenhagen is a tour of the Old Canals. This is an experience not to be missed. The boats take you on a 60 minute cruise of the harbour and canals, through the old city and past many of the most famous sights. If you prefer a bit of independence you can take the Water Bus Hop-on hop-off tour (without guides). The Water Bus sails along and between the coastlines of the two islands of Sealand and Amager and gives you the opportunity to visit a number other places if you have the time.

The Round Tower

If you are feeling energetic and need to work your stiff joints back into action, take a trip up the Round Tower. This intriguing piece of architectural used to house the University’s book collection, now it is home to changing exhibitions of art, culture, history and science. If you can climb the 209 metre ramp to get to the top of the 36 meter high tower you will be rewarded with stunning views of the old part of Copenhagen and, if you are there when the observatory is open, have a look into space too.

Shopping

Central Copenhagen’s ever expanding pedestrian street network is a shopper’s paradise, with all number of modern and eclectic independent shops and department stores to choose from. There are also plenty of roadside cafés where you can sit and watch the world go by while the rest of your party shops til they drop… or at least until you have to head back to the airport.

As always, make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to CPH Copenhagen (Kastrup) Airport in time for your connecting flight. Enjoy your transit city rather than whiling away the time leaning up against your luggage in the departures lounge.
