The I-75 Fisher Freeway, US-19 John C. Lodge Freeway and the I-375 Chrysler Freeway all run through the city center, together with Michigan Avenue, Grand River Avenue and Gratiot Avenue. Do note that if you are using a GPS along the highway system into Detroit you will find some rather dramatic lane switching (up to 4 lanes) in a short distance and this can cause some stress/panic.


Most of the parking lots and garages in Detroit are operated by the Municipal Parking Departments. Many of the parking meters use electronic Meter Cards, which are sold at the Neighbourhood City Hall, as well as coins. Some of the main places to park in Detroit include the Cobo Hall Garage along Washington Boulevard, the Cultural Center Garage on Farnsworth Avenue, the Eastern Market Garage off Riopelle Street, the Ford Underground Garage along East Jefferson Avenue, and the Grand Circus Park Garage on Woodward Avenue.
