Durban King Shaka International Airport

Where is Durban King Shaka Airport?

Durban is South Africa's 3rd largest city, and its busiest port. It is also a major tourism centre, a result of its warm subtropical climate and beautiful beaches.

It was in Durban that, as a young lawyer, Gandhi first employed non-violent civil disobedience, aiding the large Indian resident community's struggle for rights. Added to the indigenous Zulu heritage, the city's Indian culture makes for a city of fascinating msrkets, cuisine and performance arts.

Durban King Shaka International Airport (IATA: DUR, ICAO: FALE), or Durban King Shaka Airport, also known as La Mercy Airport, is located in La Mercy, about 35 kilometres (22 miles) north of Durban city centre, in eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa. DUB is part of the Dube Tradeport, a trade zone that includes transit accomodations for tourists. The airport is sometimes referred to as KSIA, but this is not an official airport code. The airport is named to honour Shaka, leader of the Zulu nation in the 19th century.

In 2015, Durban King Shaka Airport served 4,930,155 passengers, making it the 3rd busiest airport in South Africa, after Cape Town International Airport (CPT), and Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport (JNB). Together, the three form what is referred to as the "Golden Triangle". DUR is the 10th busiest airport in Africa.

Durban King Shaka Airport is a frequent home to the national carrier South African Airways and the low cost domestic carrier Mango Airlines which provides cheap flights to Durban.

Other airlines that fly to DUR include Air Mauritius, Airlink, British Airways, Emirates and Kulula.

Cities with flights to Durban Airport include Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Dubai, East London, George, Harare, Johannesburg, Lusaka, Maputo, Mauritius, Nelspruit and Port Elizabeth.
