Official Chiang Mai Airport taxi service is available outside the terminal, but the fare may be paid for, in advance, at the taxi counter in the Arrivals hall.

 

A taxi from Chiang Mai Airport into town will take about 10-15 minutes.

If you walk outside the Chiang Mai Airport terminal to the main road, you can catch either a tuktuk or a shared taxi (Songthaew -- a pickup truck with benches in the back) to town for about half the official price.

Expect to be approached by touts as you exit the Chiang Mai Airport. Their job is to ensure that you get ripped off with a fixed-fare taxi to your destination. Go and find your own taxi and negotiate directly with the driver if they refuse to use the meter. Or walk back into the terminal and purchase a ticket for an official taxi.
