Moscow Domodedovo Airport

Where is Moscow Domodedovo Airport?

Once capital of the former Soviet Union, and today the capital of Russia, Moscow is a sprawling metropolis. Set on the Moskva River, which bends its way through the city, this centre of political and financial Russia boasts many reminders of its imperial and Soviet past.

Everywhere in Moscow, there are Soviet-era monoliths and post-Soviet kitsch, and numerous museums. Moscow is an architecture lover's dream, with its onion-shaped domes, famous subway platforms, old palaces and cathedrals.

Moscow Domodedovo International Airport (IATA: DME, ICAO: UUDD), or Moscow Domodedovo Airport, or simply Domodedovo Airport, is an international airport located in the town of Domodedovo, Moscow Oblast, south-southeast of central Moscow, Russia.

In 2015, Domodedovo Airport served 30,504,514 passengers, making it Russia's and Moscow's 2nd busiest airport.

DME is just one of three major airports serving Moscow, the others being Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) and Moscow International Vnukovo Airport (VKO). A fourth airport, Moscow Zhukovsky Ramenskoye International Airport (ZIA), opened in May 2016. Most international passengers fly into either DME or SVO. All share an IATA city code: MOW.

Airlines serving Domodedovo Airport include Aegean, airBaltic, Air Berlin, Austrian, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Lufthansa, Qatar, Royal Jordanian, Singapore, Swiss, Ukraine And Vietnam.

Destinations served include Athens, Bangkok, Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Doha, Dubai, Frankfurt, Geneva, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Japan, Kiev, London, Phuket, Riga, St. Petersburg, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and Vienna, to name just a few.

Domodedovo Airport's terminal has been undergoing upgrading, and a new concourse is construction, and should be complete in 2013. As a result of recent expansion, DME is also now able to accept wide-body aircraft, such as the Airbus A380. Moscow Domodedovo Airport actually operates what it refers to as a 2nd terminal in downtown Moscow, in the Paveletsky Railway Station. The two are connected by the Aeroexpress train.

In 2012, for the 3rd time, Domodedovo Airport was named Best Airport among Eastern European countries by Skytrax.
