Explore the ruins of Kos Island's millennia-old Asklepion. In ancient Greece, an asklepion was a sacred healing temple where medicine was systematized and many were taught the art of healing. Of the approximately 300 asclepions, Kos Island's was one of the largest and best known. Explore the remains of this remarkable structure, dating to around 400 BC. See the medical school, temples, and thermal baths. Make sure to visit the highest terrace of the complex for views of much of the island's eastern side. Head to the small on-site museum to learn more about the practice of medicine in ancient Greece. Put Asklepion into our Kos trip planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Kos.
