Go Golfing

Mexico has some excellent golf courses, and Puerto Vallarta is no exception. It's a great way to experience the beauty here. Didn't think to being your clubs? No worries, you can rent them. Reluctant to golf in the heat? Treat yourself to a cart. Enjoy!

See the Sierra Madre

If you can handle riding in the back of a jeep or other safari-like vehicle, a trip into the Sierra Madris will let you experience and see things you wouldn't otherwise be exposed to. It's surprisingly junglelike.  Arranged tours will take you through small villages that will let you see rural Mexican life.

Explore San Sebastian

San Sebastian is a remote mountain village in the Sierra Madre Mountains with lots of history (there used to be gold and silver mining here). You'll find a village with a colonial heritage, and still embracing traditional ways of life.

Get Your Fins On

There are lots of snorkelling opportunities in the area around Puerto Vallarta. The most popular spots are snorkeling areas are the Marietas Islands caverns and the underwater caves at Los Arcos. Snorkeling trips combine a day of sun, fun and entertainment, along with snorkeling at beach hideaways and secluded islands in and around beautiful Banderas Bay.

Go Sailing

You can easily go sailing in Puerto Vallarta, and what better way to spend the day? Most sailing tours will allow you to choose between playing a role on the crew (with instructions, newbies welcome) or sitting back to enjoy the voyage.

Swim with the Dolphins

Those who have taken the opportunity to swim with dolphins describe it as an amazing experience. Its a popular activity in Puerto Vallarta, so book early if this is high on your bucket list.

Escape to Las Caletas

Las Caletas is a nature preserve on Banderas Bay. In this secluded spot you can explore, swim, snorkle, kayak, dive, get a massage, or just lie on the beach. There are activities for kids, and all will enjoy seeing the parrots. Las Caletas is only accessible by sea and, depending on your departure point, the boat ride can take up to an hour. Tips: consider taking some Gravol for the boatride, and you might find you need insect repellant. Those who visit say its worth it.

As always, make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to the Puerto Vallarta Airport in time for your connection and enjoy your layover city rather than whiling away the time leaning up against your luggage in the departures lounge.
