XRJ Termini Train Station Info & Guide

Termini

Where is Termini Train Station?

Rome, the Eternal City, is home to Vatican City, the famed city of the Roman Empire and La Dolce Vita (the sweet life). Its historic centre, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, is abundant with millenium-old churches, intriguing ruins, opulent monuments, ornate statues, graceful fountains and grand old palaces. Rome attracts tourists from around the world and is one of Europe's most visited cities.

Rome Termini Train Station is located right in the city centre of Rome, Lazio, Italy. Rome's main train station is also referred to as Stazione Termini or Roma Termini. The station is dedicted to Pope John Paul II.

With its 29 platforms and over 150 million passengers each year, Roma Termini is one of the largest train stations in Europe.

As Rome's largest station, Termini has regular train services to all major Italian cities as well as daily international services to Paris, Munich, Genève, Basel and Vienna.

Roma Tiburtina Station, the second-largest train station in Rome, is being redeveloped as a hub for Italian high speed rail services (instead of Termini). The third largest train station in the city is Roma Ostiense Station.

Roma Termini Station is also the main hub for public transport inside Rome. Both current Rome Metro lines (A and B) intersect at Termini metro station, and a major bus station is located at Piazza Cinquecento, the square in front of the station.

Four of the six tram lines in Rome (lines 3, 5, 14 and 19) meet at the key node of the tram network at "nearby" Porta Maggiore, but this is about 1 km east of Roma Termini railway station, and not connected to the metro network.

Other Items of Interest at Termini Train Station

Services at Roma Termini Station includes:

  • Clinical-diagnostic, fitness and wellness services
  • Pharmacy
  • Post office
  • Bookstore, with plenty of English titles

Note that the station closes at night, so no sleeping here.

Beware of the Postcard Scam: Children outside the XRJ Termini Train Station have been known to ask people for "assistance" in writing a letter to home by placing pen and postcard in your hands, along with a story of hunger and poverty. This is a scam that often tourists will end up handing over money based on puppy-dog eyes and crying.
