Disabled Facilities at the YWG Winnipeg Airport

YWG Winnipeg International Airport provides comprehensive facilities for travellers with disabilities. In fact, in 2012, Winnipeg Airport won the Winnipeg Accessibility Award in recognition of the accessibility and universal design of the airport, including physical access, communication access and wayfinding.

Getting to the Airport:

Two (2) pick up/drop off locations have been designated with the International Symbol of Access on the Air Terminal Building main curb. To help ensure the availability of these designated locations, please use them as loading zones only. No waiting is permitted at these designated spots.

All parking lots have stalls designated by the International Symbol of Access for users with valid parking permits. For the Air Terminal Building, the closest accessible parking is located in Short Term Lots 1 and 2. Short Term Lot 2 provides the nearest accessible parking to the Administration Building.

At the terminal:

You will find the elevator from the main floor to International Arrivals on the lower level, through the first entrance door at the north end of the building (Door #1). The elevator from the main floor to the second level where you will find security screening, retail and food outlets is located between the Information Centre and Tim Horton's (between Doors #3 and #4).

Advise the Check-in Agent of any assistance you will require. Check-in counters and kiosks are accessible from a standing or seated position.

Accessible facilities at the terminal include:

  • Braille signage, internationally recognized symbols, and bilingual text directing passengers to various amenities
  • Audible alarm and flashing light signal that the baggage belt will be starting to move
  • Closed Caption Televisions
  • Each bank of payphones has at least one Teletype (TTY) unit
  • Private rooms for passenger security screening (advise agent)
  • Relief area for service animals south of the Air Terminal Building

Leaving the Airport:

All ground transportation service providers accommodate persons with disabilities (taxi, limousine, shuttle, bus service).

Ground transportation should be pre-arranged to ensure that an accessible vehicle is ready to take you to and from the airport when needed.

Travelers with service animals are entitled to ride in any vehicle without pre-arrangement.

Car rental agencies have vehicles with hand-control systems. Make reservations in advance to ensure availability.

Remember to inform your airline of your requirements well in advance of your scheduled departure (most airlines suggest 48 hours). It is always advisable for disabled travellers to inquire about any special requirements prior to arriving at YWG Winnipeg International Airport.
