Victoria International Airport Walking

If you would like to walk from the Victoria Airport and do not have too much luggage, there are some options.

Walking from YYJ directions:

  • Walk straight out of the departures area to the parking lot to where you see the "big flowers" (public art)
  • Continue straight until the end of the parking lot
  • Cross the one-way road (airport entrance) on your left
  • From here you can walk along the cycling path to the roundabout (about 15 minutes)
  • From the roundabout, either:
  •      Go straight - this will bring you to the McTavish Park and Ride (for public transit) and then the Pat Bay Highway (both about another 10 minutes)
  •      Go to the left - this will take you through West Sidney and then across the highway to Sidney (about another 25 minutes)

  • The downtown route will also connect you with the Galloping Goose Trail

 YYJ Victoria Airport by Boat

You just got here (!) .... but when you are ready to leave, you can get to quite a few destinations from Victoria by boat.

If you want to go to Vancouver, you definitely don't have to fly. In fact, the most popular crossing from Victoria to Vancouver is via BC Ferries, which operates a ferry service from Swartz Bay (quite close to YYJ) to Tsawwassen (south of Vancouver). To get to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal    , follow the directions in the Bus section     to get into Sidney, then take bus number 70, 72 or 73 to Swartz Bay.

You may want to seize the opportunity to visit nearby Washington state, just across the border in the United States, while you are here. If so, you can do it by boat via one of three different routes:

To get to Seattle, you can hop The Clipper, a high-speed passenger-only catamaran that runs to/from Victoria's inner harbour downtown):

Also running from the inner harbour in downtown Victoria is the MV Coho. Operated by the Black Ball Ferry Line, this passenger and vehicle ferry goes to Port Angeles, across the Strait of Juan de Fuca (the crossing time is just 90 minutes). Service runs all year except for an annual refit for one week in winter time. In the winter, this ferry runs 2 sailings a day and in the summer up to 4 sailings per day each way are scheduled.

Washington State Ferries operates a passenger vehicle ferry between Sidney (which is quite close to YYJ) and Anacortes, passing through the San Juan Islands. Ferries run once or twice a day. This service does not operate during the winter season, generally from the second week of January until the end of March. To get there, you'll need to take a bus.
