Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport

Where is Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport?

The 7th largest city in the world, São Paulo exerts strong influence both regionally and internationally in commerce, finance, arts and entertainment. The city of São Paulo hosts more than 90,000 events a year, from film and fashion, to business and sports.

São Paulo is one of 12 host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, for which Brazil is the host nation. A flurry of infrastructure projects in the city include the new Corinthians stadium (Arena Corinthians) and airport upgrades.

São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (IATA: GRU, ICAO: SBGR), officially São Paulo/Guarulhos–Governador André Franco Montoro International Airport (!), formerly Cumbica Airport, also referred to as São Paulo Guarulhos Airport, São Paulo Governador André Franco Montoro Airport, São Paulo Guarulhos Montoro Airport, or simply Guarulhos Airport, is located in the Cumbica district of the municipality of Guarulhos, 25 kilometres (15 miles) from downtown São Paulo, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The airport is named to honour André Franco Montoro, a former Governor of São Paulo. GRU Airport is shared with the military.

In 2012, Guarulhos Airport served 32,777,330 passengers, making it the busiest airport in the country. Airport upgrades currently underway are welcomed, as GRU has been ranked one of the world's worst in terms of delays.

São Paulo has two main airports, São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) handles most international flights, while São Paulo Congonhas Airport (CGH) handles domestic and regional flights (the tiny São Paulo Campo de Marte Airport serves light aircraft only). While some distance away, the Greater São Paulo region is also served by Campinas Viracopos International Airport (VCP), which is connected by rail, as well as by São José dos Campos Airport (SJK).
