East Village Walking Tour with Food Tasting

East Village Walking Tour with Food Tasting
Duration:
3 hours
From:
USD 50.00

Take a trip through the historic and beatific East Village; the home to 24-hour cafes, Ukranian Churches, avant-garde theater houses; and celebrities and artistic hopefuls alike. We begin our journey at the defunct site of CBGB's, now a John Varvatos Men's Clothier. From here we will learn about the seedy underbelly of The Bowery and how a once neighborhood of immigrants has transformed into one of the hippest places to live in the city. Notable historic stops include: the oldest Irish Pub McSorley's (est.1854), Yonah Schimmel's, Cafe Veselka, the gentrified St. Mark's Street, and the historic Lower East Side neighborhood. Come visit the neighborhood where artists like Patti Smith, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and the Beastie Boys all thrived. Take a walk on the other side of Bohemian Culture.

Lower East Side Experience: Essex Street Market Food Tour

Lower East Side Experience: Essex Street Market Food Tour
Duration:
90 minutes
From:
USD 48.00
Taste your way through the Essex Street Market, a centerpiece of the Manhattan's Lower East Side for over 75 years that is today home to over 20 vendors, including fishmongers, cheesemongers, bakers, coffee roasters, and restaurateurs. Taste delicious food and learn about the stories behind each vendor's business and the role the market has played over time in supporting culinary entrepreneurship, especially for immigrant and working class communities. Featured vendors rotate from tour to tour, but tastings may include European and American farmstead cheeses, fresh-baked bagels and breads, coffee, rice balls, fish sandwiches, tacos, or a sampling of Japanese dishes. Along the way, we will explore the past, present, and future of New York City's public market system, from opening day in 1940, to its role today in providing quality food and opportunities for businesses to launch and grow.
