Where is Mexicali Airport?

The capital of the Mexican state of Baja California, Mexicali was largely agricultural for much of its history. Today, the city is evolving into an industrial centre, attracting assembly and food processing plants.

Situated adjacent to Calexico, California, Mexicali attracts Americans seeking low cost pharmacy and dental services.

Mexicali International Airport (IATA: MXL, ICAO: MMML), officially General Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada International Airport, also referred to as General Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada Airport, Mexicali Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada Airport, Mexicali Taboada Airport, or simply Mexicali Airport, is located 20 kilometres (12 miles) east of the city of Mexicali, in Baja California state, Mexico. The airport is named to honour Mexican military officer, politician and former Governor of Baja California, Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada.

In 2013, Mexicali Airport served 496,000 passengers. Located near the USA-Mexico border, MXL is the country's northern-most airport.

"International" in name only at this time, MXL airport has occasionally handled charter flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver.
