Budapest Driving Stress Level: 7/10

Central Budapest can be difficult to find your way around by car and local Hungarian drivers often ignore the basic rules of the road, driving rather recklessly at times. However, outside of the city centre, a rental car from Budapest Airport affords the perfect mode of transport, with Bratislava and Vienna being especially popular locations within driving distance of Budapest, lying to the north-west.

Being a major city, parking in Budapest is often difficult. Many visitors choose to leave their cars at their hotel car park and simply use the metro to reach the city centre. Several multi-storey parking garages can be found in the city, together with some street parking, although the 'park and ride' sites close to the main underground stations often provide the easiest, stress-free option.
