A few taxis have meters, but most do not, so be sure to agree to a fare before you get in (don't be afraid to haggle).

 

Tip: Be aware that, in Uganda, the word "taxi" is used to refer to a matatu, a minibus with prescribed routes.

Think twice before you take a "Boda Boda", a frightening sort of motorcycle taxi. While they may not be available for hire at the airport, Boda Bodas are common in Kampala (you will be approached), 

Boda Boda drivers will do whatever it takes to get you to your destination quickly, darting in front of traffic and though crowds of pedestrians. Women are expected to ride side saddle (extremely dangerous), or be subjected to scorn for riding "like a man". Most hospital visits and traffic fatalities in Kampala are from Boda Boda accidents.
