Samaná Catey International Airport

Where is Samaná Catey Airport?

Samaná Catey International Airport (IATA: AZS, ICAO: MDCY), officially Aeropuerto Internacional Presidente Juan Bosch, or simply called Samaná Catey Airport, is located near the little village of El Catey, just west of Sánchez, at the base of the mountainous peninsula Cape Samana in the Dominican Republic.

Samaná Catey Airport is quite new (it opened in 2006), and is capable of handling large aircraft, such as the Boeing 747.

AZS Airport serves the province of Samaná in the Dominican Republic, a relatively undiscovered area just beginning to open up to tourists.

In 2011, Samaná Catey Airport served 121,718 passengers. High growth in passenger traffic in the future is anticipated.

International destinations served include Paris, London, New York, Lisbon, Toronto and Montreal.

Other Items of Interest at Samaná Catey Airport

If you come to Samaná on a package vacation with Sunquest then your transportation to your chosen hotel is included, otherwise you will need to find your own transportation.

The airport also offers:

  • Flight Information Screens
  • Public telephone services
  • Zone stores
  • Restaurants
  • Free luggage trolleys

A note of caution: Poverty, though not as bad as next door Haiti, is still rampant and it is best you take precautions. If you leave the airport, do not flash obvious wealth, keep a firm grip on your bag, walk confidently, and try not to dress or act like a tourist.
