The airport is named to honour Thurgood Marshall, a Baltimore native who was the first African American to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States.


In 2013, Baltimore Washington Airport served 22,501,353 passengers, making it the busiest of the three airports serving Washington, D.C.. The next busiest is Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), followed by Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
