Chania International Airport

Where is Chania Airport?

Greece's largest and most populated island, Crete, is known for its unique local culture. Crete has its own music, dance and poetry. Crete was once centre of the Minoan civilization (c. 2700–1420 BC), the oldest recorded civilization in Europe.

Chania International Airport (IATA: CHQ, ICAO: LGSA), officially Chania International Airport, Ioannis Daskalogiannis or Chania Ioannis Daskalogiannis Airport, also referred to as Western Crete Airport, Souda Airport, or simply Chania Airport, is located 14 kilometres (8.7 miles) from the city of Chania, on the island of Crete, in Greece. The airport is situated near Souda Bay, on Crete's Akrotiri Peninsula. The airport is named to honour Ioannis Daskalogiannis, an 18th century Cretan rebel against Ottoman rule. CHQ is a joint civil - military airport.

Chania Airport serves about 1.7 million passengers a year.

CHQ is Crete's secondary airport, and is gateway to the western part of the island. Heraklion International Airport (HER) is Crete's primary airport.

Aegean, Olympic and Sky Express provide year-round service to CHQ.
