Chiang Mai Train Station Info & Guide

Chiang Mai

Where is Chiang Mai Train Station?

800 year old Chiang Mai was isolated until the 1920's, tucked away in the Himalayan Mountains foothills, allowing the city to keep its distinctive charm. Within the remains of the city walls, there are an amazing 30+ ancient temples, designed in a mix of Sri Lankan, Lanna Thai and Burmese styles. There are wonderful wood carvings, gilded umbrellas, Naga staircases, angelic and leonine guardians, and pagodas laced with gold filigree.

Surrounded by lush countryside and mountains, Chiang Mai is much greener and quieter than Bangkok. This "Rose of the North" has a cosmopolitan air, due, in part, by the popularity of Chiang Mai with expats.

Chiang Mai Railway Station (SRT Code : CGM), also referred to as Chiang Mai Train Station, serves Chiang Mai, the capital city of Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. Chiang Mai Rail Station, a 1st class station, is located on the east bank of Ping River.

A major transportation hub in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai Railway Station is the main train station in Chiang Mai Province. The nearest airport, the province's other transportation hub, is Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX).

There are about 14 daily trains serving Chiang Mai Railroad Station, including two E&O trains. There are also half a dozen special trains operating during the Chinese  New Year period, Songkran and other special festivals. Chiang Mai Station serves about 800,000 passengers a year.

Your best bet for a Chiang Mai Railway Station transfer is a taxi. Details on all options are included in this guide.
