Rome Fiumicino International Airport Train

There is a Train from the Rome Airport that allows easy access from Fiumicino to Rome and avoids the taxi rip-offs at the Rome Airport. To get to the Rome Airport train station, leave the Rome Fiumicino Airport terminal by the escalator/walkway to the railway station (all under one roof). The Rome Airport train station is near car park D, across the road from terminal C. It is not well signed and it may be better to follow signs for 'Rent a Car/Autonoleggio' or 'Hilton Rome Airport Hotel' which are in the same direction.

On entering the Rome Airport train concourse, buy a ticket at the TABAC (signed 'Buy train tickets here' -- it has an English option). Then validate the ticket in one of the machines on platform No. 1. These Rome Airport train tickets are valid for 90 minutes.

The Leonardo Express (Fast Train) runs non-stop from the Fiumicino Airport to Rome's Roma Termini Train Station (XRJ)     right in the centre of the city and from there you can connect to the metro if your final destination is not within walking distance.  Rome Airport trains leave from the FCO Rome Fiumicino International Airport station every 30 minutes between 06:35 and 23:35. The Rome Airport train ticket price is EUR 11 one way and travel time is 35 minutes.

Because of the difficulties of getting tickets from Rome to Airport and within the city in general, you are advised to buy your Rome to Airport return ticket at the same time as your Airport to Rome ticket. They are usable for both directions with no apparent expiry date.

The Metropolitan Train Line FM1 is a slower, but cheaper rail option from the Fiumicino Airport to Rome and runs Monday to Saturday every 15 minutes. Ticket fare is EUR 5.50 one way to the city. Transfer time to Roma Tiburtina is 30-40 minutes and to Trastevere 30 minutes.  This Rome Airport train does make stops en-route to the Termini Train Station.
