HRE Harare Airport Info & Guide

Harare International Airport

Where is Harare Airport?

Zimbabwe's largest city and capital, Harare, is the country's leading commercial, and communications centre. Gold is mined in the area, and manufactured goods include chemicals, steel and textiles. Harare is also an important trade centre for cotton, tobacco, maize and citrus fruits.

The city is famously known for the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA).

Harare International Airport (IATA: HRE, ICAO: FVHA), also known as Salisbury Airport, or simply Harare Airport, is located about 10 kilometres (6 miles) from Harare city centre, in Harare province, Zimbabwe. The airport is shared with the military.

Serving about 600,000 passengers a year, Harare Airport is Zimbabwe's busiest airport.

Harare Airport is the main hub of Air Zimbabwe. Other airlines offering flights from Harare include Air Namibia, Air Botswana, Airlink, British Airways, EgyptAir, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, KLM, LAM Mozambique Airlines, Malawian Airlines, South African Airways, South African Express and TAAG Angola Airlines.

Cities with flights to Harare Airport include Addis Ababa, Amsterdam, Beira, Blantyre, Bulawayo, Cairo, Dubai, Durban, Gaborone, Johannesburg, Lilongwe, London, Luanda, Lusaka, Maputo, Nairobi, Victoria Falls and Windhoek.

Your best bet for a Harare Airport transfer is a shuttle. Details on all options are included in this guide.

Trivia: Harare Airport's runway, at 4,725 metres (15,502 ft), is one of the longest in Africa. It compares with Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in South Africa, whose longest runway measures 4,418 metres (14,495 ft). The reason for this is that both are "hot and high" airports requiring long take-off runs.
