Seoul Incheon Airport Taxi

Seoul Incheon Airport taxi photo

Incheon Airport taxis may be hired on the Arrivals Hall (1st floor), between platforms 4 and 8 at ICN Seoul Incheon International Airport. There are different sections within this Incheon Airport transportation area for different taxi types and destinations (Seoul, Incheon, or Gyeonggi).

Incheon Airport taxi Types:

  • Standard taxi: Carries up to 4 passengers plus luggage and charges a base fare plus a metered price. A 20% surcharge is applied between 00:00 and 04:00.
  • Deluxe taxi: Also carries up to 4 passengers plus luggage, but is more spacious. Drivers must have a clean record (no accidents for at least 10 years) and have additional training. They may have better English skills. Fares are about 50% higher than standard taxis, but there is no night surcharge.
  • Jumbo taxi: Carries up to 9 passengers and is good for groups travelling together. These takes take credit cards as payment.
  • International taxi: Apparently for foreign visitors to Korea, charges flat fare fees based on zones (no meter)

Note that passengers are responsible for the toll fee of KRW 7100.

Tip: whenever you take a taxi in Seoul, look for a car marked "International Taxi". These taxis are operated by the city, and have drivers that speak English and Japanese.

Pirate Seoul Incheon Airport Taxi Serivce

Touts may approach passengers in the ICN Airport International Arrivals areas offering taxi services. Remember that for a standard taxi, including tolls, should run about KRW 53,000 and about 50% higher for deluxe taxis. These touts may offer Incheon Airport to Seoul service for about KRW 150,000, or 3x the standard price! Apparently this has developed into a gang situation and you should steer well clear of even the thought of discussion of taking a taxi service that has been organized by a tout into town. Regular taxi drivers have also been injured due to the activity of touts.

IHateTaxis.com does not recommend the pirate Seoul Incheon Airport taxi service.

We strongly do not recommend this option, regardless of the situation! Use official taxi services only and do not discuss services with touts as you could place yourself and others into danger and if you use their services, you are being grossly overcharged and contributing to gang activity.

 Seoul Incheon Airport Taxi Scams

The most common taxi scams in Seoul are 'creative' use of the taxi fare calculator, and all manner of extra charges.

On the bright side, the city is cracking down and offers cash rewards to taxi anyone who reports dishonest cabbies, foreigners included. It's part of an effort to end the scamming of visitors to the city. To report a bad driver, call the Seoul Tourism hotline at 02-1330 (English). Be sure to get the driver's ID number: you could pocket the equivalent of several hundred USD.
