IND Indianapolis Airport Info & Guide

Indianapolis International Airport

Where is Indianapolis Airport? IND Indianapolis International Airport (IATA: IND, ICAO: KIND, FAA LID: IND), or simply Indianapolis Airport is a public airport located seven miles (11 km) southwest of the central business district of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Indianapolis Airport is the largest in Indiana, occupying approximately 7,700 acres (3,116 ha) of land in Wayne and Decatur Townships of Marion County, all within the city of Indianapolis.

A new 1,200,000-square-foot (110,000 m2) passenger terminal, the Colonel H. Weir Cook Terminal, opened between Indianapolis International Airport's two main parallel runways in 2008. For the first time, international arrivals are able to be processed through customs in the main passenger terminal. The terminal was named after Col. Harvey Weir-Cook of Wilkinson, Indiana, a US Army Air Forces pilot in World War I and World War II.

Serving 7,476,913 passengers in 2011, Indianapolis Airport is the 47th busiest airport in the United States, in terms of total passenger traffic. Indianapolis Airport averages 135 daily passenger flights to 34 destinations. The largest carrier at the airport is Delta Air Lines and its regional partners, accounting for about 25% of the commercial traffic in and out of IND Airport. Southwest Airlines is the airport's second busiest carrier.

FedEx Express has made Indianapolis Airport home to its second largest hub in the world, second only to the world hub at Memphis International Airport (MEM).
