Lihue Airport (LIH) Information

Where is Lihue Airport? Lihue Airport (IATA: LIH, ICAO: PHLI, FAA LID: LIH) is a state-owned public-use airport located in the Līhuʻe CDP on the southeast coast of the island of Kauaʻi in Kauai County, Hawaiʻi, United States, two nautical miles east of the centre of the CDP.

The Lihue airport does not serve as a hub for any airline. Numerous inter-island flights are available daily.  Flights to LIH include United Airlines with nonstop daily service to San Francisco using a Boeing 757-200 and Los Angeles, also using a Boeing 757-200, and weekly nonstop service to Denver with yet another 757-200. American Airlines also offers nonstop daily service to Los Angeles with a 757-200; and recently, US Airways began offering nonstop service to Phoenix, utilizing a 757-200. Alaska Airlines offers nonstop daily LIH flights to Seattle with their next generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which began in October, 2007. Canada's WestJet announced seasonal non-stop flights to LIH Vancouver which began on December 16, 2009, using also a 737-800. The airport's runway can handle planes up to and including the size of a DC-10. The airport is mostly un-walled, and the check in is completely outside.

The LIH airport is the primary gateway to Kauai for visitors (especially tourists), and has several Lihue car rental facilities. The Car rental at Lihue Airport is easy and straight forward with Lihue car rental agencies across the road in a single building. 

Tip: Tip when flying into Lihue: For the best incoming view, select a window seat on the left side of the aircraft. More often than not you'll be landing to the north thanks to the trade winds. From that angle you will see a dramatic cliff view off the left side on final approach.
