Things To Do in Perth & Perth Airport Layover Ideas

Perth things to do

Things to do in Perth if you have a Perth Airport Layover or Extended Perth Airport Stopover

If you have an extended layover at the Perth Airport or staying in town, why not consider getting out with some fun activities? We list a few here and there are many more on Perth.LayoverIdeas.com.

Open tours in a new tab? (Good for comparing tour options)

Perth Airport does not have a great deal on offer for the traveller on a layover and, if you are there more than a couple of hours, it would be far more interesting to head into Perth to spend the time soaking up some of the interesting sights and sounds as well as getting yourself a good meal. A taxi into the city takes about 15 to 20 minutes and is certainly worth the expense.

Outdoor Children’s Playground

If you are travelling with children and do not have too long a wait between flights, there is a children’s playground located outside Terminal 1 on the western side of the building. This area will give your children a chance to expend some of that pent up energy and get them ready to sit still for another few hours after you re board.

Kings Park

If you want to get out into the countryside, breathe in fresh air and stretch your legs then why not head for the centre of Perth city. Kings Park is the largest central city park in the world and it has plenty to offer for the traveller on a stop over including walking trails through wildflowers and eucalypts, native birds, picnic areas, lakes and monuments. It offers stunning views of the city, the Swan River and if you are hungry, stop off at Fraser's Restaurant or grab a snack at the café. If you are feeling fit, climb the 101 steps up to the top of the 15 metre high DNA Tower from where, on a clear day, you can see the beach.

Shopping

If you are in need of some retail therapy to take your mind off long haul flying, catch a taxi from PER Perth International Airport to the Hay Street Mall where you will find shops, restaurants and entertainment to keep everyone happy until your connecting flight. Do not forget to buy a new suitcase if your spending spree goes on a little.

Perth Mint

If you would rather keep your cash and watch some more being made, why not head off to Perth Mint. This has become one of Perth’s great tourist attractions, still operating from its original premises dating back to 1899. Here you can witness a gold bar being made, learn about the history of gold prospectors at the replica prospectors camp and leave with your own personal gold medallion – if you change your mind about spending money that is.

As always, make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to Perth Airport in time for your connecting flight and enjoy your transit city rather than whiling away the time leaning up against your backpack in the departures lounge.
