Paphos is easily accessible from the PFO Paphos International Airport by taxi, but if you are keen to have a more interesting transport experience, and have the time to do so, the bus is the cheapest and easiest way to explore the island.

Aphrodite’s Rock

If you are heading to Cyprus you will be aware of some of the mythology that surrounds its culture and history. Aphrodite is the Goddess of love and beauty who is believed to have risen from the water on a scallop shell. The myth follows that if you swim around the rock you will be blessed with eternal beauty! Just watch out for those rough seas which make swimming a little difficult. It is better to ascend the rock itself.

Paphos Castle

Paphos Castle, located on the edge of the Paphos Harbour, has been built and demolished at least three times since it was originally constructed as a Byzantine fort to protect the harbour. Paphos Castle is now a listed building and is an easily recognised landmark in Paphos. A number of archaeological digs have turned up some interesting information about its history but more recently it has become the backdrop to the annual open air festival that takes place every September.

George’s Fun Bus

In operation since 1998, George’s Fun Bus offers a well informed and fun day tour of Paphos. Incorporating Archaeology, History, Art and Nature, this bus tour takes you to a prehistoric settlement dating back 4500 years, the Art college, which is almost entirely constructed from Cyprus’ waste and has many unique and interesting features, Ayios Neophytos Monastery which is built into the side of a cliff face, Adonis Waterfall where you’ll get to cool off and, of course, feel rejuvenated, Mavrokolymbos Dam and after all that you will have worked up plenty of appetite for a BBQ on the beach to end off your day. This is a great way to see some of the sights of Paphos.

Shopping

Shopping in Paphos offers a chance to admire and own many hand crafted treasures from lace to hand-turned pottery and paintings and sculptures. There are many shops to choose from in both the new and old parts of the town and any one of them will turn up interesting and unique souvenirs to take home and remind you of your island in the sun.

As always, make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to PFO Paphos International Airport in time for your connecting flight. Enjoy your transit city rather than whiling away the time leaning up against your luggage in the departures lounge.
