Victoria Harbour Airport

Where is Victoria Harbour Airport?

Nicknamed the Garden City for Butchart Gardens and ample green space, Victoria is the capital of British Columbia, Canada's westernmost province. Victoria has also been called "little England" for the ample evidence of the city's British roots. Victoria is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, with views of the Olympic Mountains in Washington state.

One of the most popular ways to get to Victoria, especially if coming from Vancouver, is by seaplane. The Victoria Inner Harbour Airport (IATA: YWH, ICAO: CYWH) is located, as the name implies, right in the city's inner harbour, a space it shares with all manner of boats. The water runways and taxiways for the airport extend out through the Middle Harbour and Outer Harbour. Also known as the Victoria Harbour Water Aerodrome, YWH is not to be confused with Victoria Airport Water Aerodrome (also known as Pat Bay Seaplane Base), which is located north of town adjacent to Victoria International Airport (YYJ).

The small but busy Victoria Harbour Airport sees numerous flights from Vancouver (it's the busiest seaplane route in Canada), as well as other destinations in the Vancouver area and on Vancouver Island. Canadian floatplane operators include West Coast Air, Harbour Air and Sea To Sky Air.

The Victoria Harbour Airport is classified as an airport of entry by NAV CANADA and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency, allowing for flights to and from nearby Washington state, in the United States. Daily scheduled floatplane service to the Victoria Inner Harbour is available year round from downtown Seattle Lake Union Airport (LKE) on Kenmore Air - fares include complimentary shuttle transfers to/from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

The Victoria floatplane base is just meters from the Fairmont Empress Hotel and the BC Parliament buildings. Just minutes after landing, you can be enjoying a drink and soaking in the view. Taxis are readily available, and buses operate close by. Details are provided in this guide.
