BDJ Banjarmasin Airport Info & Guide

Where is Banjarmasin Airport?

Established in 1526, Banjarmasin was once the capital of Dutch Borneo, and was controlled by the British for several periods. Located on a delta island near where the Barito and Martapura rivers meet, Banjarmasin is nicknamed the "River City". Laced with flood-prone waterways, many of Banjarmasin's houses are built on rafts or stilts over the water, and small rowboats are used for travel.

Its deepwater port, Trisakti Harbour, is used for both shipping (exports include pepper, rattan, rubber, timber, coal, petroleum, gold and diamonds) and passenger ferries to/from Java.

Banjarmasin Airport (IATA: BDJ, ICAO: WAOO), also known as Syamsudin Noor Airport or Banjarbaru Airport, is located 10 kilometres (6 miles) southwest of Banjarbaru and 25 kilometres (15 miles) south-ast of Banjarmasin, in Kalimantan, Indonesia. The airport is referred to as SNA Airport, however this is not an official IATA airport code.

In 2012, Banjarmasin Airport served 5.5 million passengers.

Upgrading of the BDJ Airport is underway and will be finished in late 2014.
