Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport

Where is Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport?

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport (IATA: BKK, ICAO: VTBS), previously known as New Bangkok International Airport, also referred to as Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, or even just Bangkok Airport, is located in Racha Thewa in Bang Phli, about 25 kilometres (16 miles) east of downtown Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Thailand. The airport is named to honour the golden kingdom, Suvarnabhumi, hypothesised to have been located somewhere in Southeast Asia.

In 2014, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport served 46,423,352 passengers, making it the busiest of the city's two international airports, the other being Bangkok Don Mueang Airport (DMK). Suvarnabhumi inherited the airport code, BKK, from Don Mueang, after the older airport ceased international operations for a number of years. Today, BKK handles most international flights, while DMK handles low-cost airlines and regional commuter flights.

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is a hub for Asia Atlantic Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Business Air, Jet Asia Airways, Orient Thai Airlines, Thai Airways International and Thai Smile. Other airlines that fly to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport include Aeroflot, Air France, Air India, Asiana Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Condor, Delta Air Lines, El Al, Emirates, Eurowings, EVA Air, Japan Airlines, Jetstar Airways, Kenya Airways, KLM, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Nordwind Airlines, Okay Airways, Oman Air, Philippine Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, Singapore Airlines, Transaero Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Vietnam Airlines.
