Official Cancún Airport Taxi Rates & Fares

Cancún Airport taxi rates given here are in the local currency (MXN or Mexican New Peso). Use our currency converter or the cheat sheet to the left if you would like to convert to your currency. Note that Cancún Airport taxi rates given here are for official taxis and unofficial or pirate taxis (discussed below) may be different. Drivers will accept both USD and CAD.


  • From the Cancún Airport to Cancun expect to pay MEX 200-260 (USD 15-20) with travel time of 20-25 minutes.


    From the Cancún Airport to Playa del Carmen expect to pay MEX 400-460 (USD 30-35) with travel time of 60 minutes.

An official taxi from Cancun Airport is expensive and only official airport taxis may take people from the airport to town (you can take any taxi you want back to the CUN Cancún International Airport). You can inquire at the Cancun Airport taxi desk in the Arrivals Hall regarding Cancun Airport transport rates and pre-pay your ride into town. Most people do not go this route, but rather pre-book their Cancun Airport transfer or take a colectivo    . 

 

Private Transfers
If you are travelling in a group of 3 or more then the private Cancun Airport transfer option is the best way to get to town. With any pre-booking of transfers from Cancun Airport, it is best to pay via credit card, not cash on arrival. Some Cancun Airport transfer services include Entertainment Plus     and Playa Info.    




 Pirate Cancún Airport Taxi Serivce

 

Many people will approach you on arrival at Cancún Airport and offer with transportation arrangements, take your luggage, and so on. Do not talk or interact with these people and you do not need to tell them where you are going (you would not tell someone at home this, so why would you here?). They are all in on a time share scam (see below).

Time Shares
There are time share scams at the Cancun Airport. Be aware of offers of free transportation to town from the airport as it is a lure to have you look at a time share. The taxi or colectivo driver will make a commission by bringing you to the time share. This may include the 'purchase' of your ticket from the official counter since he is feeling nice!

 

Better Accommodation
Some Cancun Airport taxi drivers will tell you that your location is a poor choice or closed in an attempt to take you elsewhere for a commission.

 

Waiting Time
Most drivers are willing to stop enroute for you to pick up beer or other supplies. Before doing this, ask if there will be a waiting charge, otherwise you might have a shock when you are dropped off and additional waiting time money is demanded.
