GMP Seoul Gimpo Airport Info & Guide

Seoul Gimpo International Airport

Where is Seoul Gimpo Airport? It is said that the Miracle on the Han River transformed Seoul from the ashes of the Korean War. Today, Seoul is the world's 4th largest metropolitan economy, after Tokyo, New York City and Los Angeles.

With a history that stretches back more than 2,000 years, it's hardly a surprise that South Korea's capital city contains 4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Changdeok Palace, Hwaseong Fortress, Jongmyo Shrine and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty.

Seoul Gimpo International Airport (IATA: GMP, ICAO: RKSS), formerly Kimpo International Airport, commonly referred to as Seoul Gimpo Airport, or simply Gimpo Airport, is located south of the Han River, on the far western side of Seoul, South Korea. The airport is named for nearby Gimpo city, which the airport used to be a part of.

In 2012, Seoul Gimpo Airport served 19,429,224 passengers, making it Korea's 2nd busiest airport.

Seoul Gimpo Airport is one of two airports serving the city. The other, the far busier Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN), handles most of the country's international traffic.

Seoul Gimpo Airport handles domestic traffic, as well as shuttle flights to alternate airports in Japan, Taiwan and China.

Airlines that fly to Gimpo Airport include Air Busan, Air China, All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, China Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Eastar Jet, EVA Airways, Japan Airlines, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Korean Air, Korean Express Air, Shanghai Airlines and T'way Airlines.

Cities with flights to Seoul Gimpo Airport include Beijing, Busan, Gwangju, Jeju, Nagoya, Osaka, Pohang, Sacheon, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, Tsushima, Ulsan, Yangyang and Yeosu.
