Vending machines in the rail stations sell short distance, single ride, and day tickets. Group tickets are also available.

 

Tip: To buy week or longer tickets, go to Hauptbanhof or Bahnof Altona, get passport photos in the automated photo booth, and buy your pass in the information office. Or you can buy a Hamburg Card, which includes the public transport system, museums, and other things. You can get the Hamburg Card at all ticket offices.

Hamburg Airport train service on S-Bahn line S1 operates every 10 minutes between the Hamburg Airport and Hamburg's central railway station, Hauptbahnhof.


The train from Hamburg Airport takes 25 minutes from the Hamburg Airport S-Bahn station, which is directly in front of the terminals and is easily reached by lift, escalator or stairs.


The Intracity train service (underground and overground) runs from approximately 05:00 until 01:00 in the central city, but there is often no service past 23:00 in outlying districts. On weekends, it runs all night.


Important Note: When travelling from the city to Hamburg Airport, the train divides at Ohlsdorf. Only the front 3 carriages go to Hamburg Airport, the others go to Poppenbüttel.
