This is an economical option, and fairly convenient, but the express bus is better.

Metrorail is the region's rapid-transit system, providing access to Downtown Washington, DC and other destinations from IAD Washington Dulles International Airport.

At present, the nearest Metrorail station is the West Falls Church Station on the Orange Line. Direct transportation to this station is available, on handicapped accessible coaches, from the Washington Flyer Coach Service.

Buses depart approximately every 30 minutes and boarding announcements are made inside the airport. The journey between the West Falls Church Metro Station and IAD Washington Dulles International Airport take approximately 20-30 minutes. The train system runs from 0530-0000 Monday to Friday, and starts at 0800 on weekends.

Tickets for the Washington Flyer Coach may be purchased at IAD Washington Dulles International Airport from the ticket podium located inside the vestibule at Arrivals Level Door 4. Tickets may also be purchased at the West Falls Church Metro Station using a credit card only. Passengers wishing to pay with cash must purchase their tickets upon arrival at the Airport. A Curbside Service Representative will be at both locations to assist you.

AeroTrain is IAD Washington Dulles International Airport’s automated airport train system, connecting passengers between the Main Terminal and the midfield A, B and C-Gates. The Main Terminal station is located just beyond the security checkpoints.

AeroTrain provides express, underground transit between stations, travelling at speeds of up to 42 miles per hour, resulting in less than 2 minute travel time between stations

Passengers arriving on International flights do not ride AeroTrain because they must first clear U.S. customs.
