John F Kennedy Airport Train Recommendations

IHateTaxis.com recommends the John F Kennedy Airport train service.

The JFK train ground transportation provides a fast and efficient service from JFK Airport to regions all over New York and Long Island, however it is not luggage-friendly. If several of you are travelling together, it is cheaper and more efficient to take a fixed-price JFK taxi.

John F Kennedy Airport Train Rates & Fares

AirTrain JFK fare is USD 5 per person, and the ride takes 10-15 minutes. Transfer between terminals is free. Buy a metrocard from the machine with US dollars or credit card.

Transfer at Howard Beach (Station A) to the A line subway trains (every 5-20 minutes) for a slower (but cheap fare at USD 2.50) run into Manhattan, or at Sutphin Boulevard/Jamaica to the E, J or Z lines runs every 5-12 minutes, fare is also USD 2.50). This makes the combined AirTrain/subway fare USD 7.50.

Note that metrocards are now re-usable and re-loadable, but cost USD 1. Add this to your fare, if you don't already have one that you can top up.

Transfer to LIRR (Long Island Railroad) at Jamaica for a faster train to Penn Station (Manhattan), and destinations on Long Island such as Lynbrook, Babylon, Hempstead, Garden City, Queens, Brooklyn, Huntington, Oyster Bay, Westhampton, Montauk, Southampton, East Hampton, Islip, Greenport, Ronkonkoma (USD 14.50/70 minutes), Deer Park & many more.
