Driving in central Beijing is only suitable for experienced drivers and many locals often ignore general road regulations and change lanes without warning. Renting a car comes into its own when you intend to travel around the outskirts of Beijing and explore the surrounding towns and cities, such as Tangshan to the east, close to the coastline.

 

Despite the high concentration of cars driving around the centre of Beijing, there are not nearly enough parking spaces available. Most of the main car parks are located underground and clearly signposted, with some outdoor lots also being available. In general, parking around the centre of Beijing is extremely expensive and cheaper options can be found outside of this district.
